Giving BackEach fall, the women of Gamma Phi Beta conduct the campus’ largest philanthropic event, the Crescent Classic Chili Cook-Off, benefiting the United Way of Norman. In the Chili Cook-Off, various campus groups cook their best chili recipes for a panel of celebrity judges to rate. Last fall, the 2016 Final Four University of Oklahoma men’s basketball team served as judges. Hundreds of students and Norman residents gather at the chapter house to enjoy the food, music, hot dog eating contests and other festivities. This year, Gamma Phi Beta raised more than $10,000! The event featured a DJ, photo booth, spicy pepper eating contests and awards for best and hottest chili.
This spring, Gamma Phi Beta hosted the Backyard Bash. The Gamma Phi house transformed into a classic camping scene as many people from across campus came to delight in activities such as making s’mores, eating hot dogs and playing with dogs from Second Chance Animal Shelter. After an exciting evening with around 400 guests, more than $10,000 was raised to benefit Girls on the Run of Oklahoma County. Girls on the Run is our international philanthropy partner as Gamma Phi Beta chapters across North America seek to Build Strong Girls.
The women of Gamma Phi Beta adopt an area on campus that members take care of weekly. Gamma Phi Beta was given the award of Outstanding Adopt-An-Area at the Arbor Day celebration in April of 2012 and 2015.
