Girls on the Run
Our philanthropic focus is Building Strong Girls and our international partner is Girls on the Run. Girls on the Run is a mentorship program for third through fifth grade girls. Gamma Phi members and other women in the community serve as coaches at various elementary schools around Norman to facilitate games and mentorship for the girls. The coaches also train the girls to run a 5k at the end of the program. This program builds strong, confident girls before they go to middle school
Our spring philanthropy event benefits Girls on the Run and typically consists of a volleyball, dodgeball, or kickball tournament. Various organizations on campus create teams to participate in the tournament with our members serving as coaches. This event brings together our members with other organizations to support Girls on the Run and get the community engaged with our philanthropy.
Pickleball Palooza and Chili Cook-Off
The Gamma Phi Beta PickleBall Palooza is a philanthropy event hosted by our chapter to gather those in our community and raise funds for Girls on the Run and the Gamma Phi Beta Foundation. Everyone showcases their skills, it is a fun and interactive way to come together and make an impact!
As a chapter, we enjoyed coming together with community members to help raise money to support our philanthropy with a fun game of pickleball! A special thank you to all who came & participated! We raised $4,164 to support Girls on the Run International and the Gamma Phi Beta Foundation!
In the fall we support the AHC event, Chili Cook-Off, which benefits United Way of Norman. Locally, we have presented Chili Cook-Off since 1988, making it the longest running philanthropy event on the University of Oklahoma’s campus. Different organizations on campus participate by bringing pots of chili to be judged by OU athletes. Chili Cook-Off 2019 raised a record breaking $10,000 for United Way of Norman. Representatives of United Way attend each year, showing the special relationship our chapter has with this organization.
